Tony Genisot has been designated by the National Home Builders Association (NAHB)

as a Certified Age-In-Place Specialist (CAPS).  Builders who have successfully completed training through the NAHB achieve this designation

As more and more of the population reaches retirement age, CAPS training will take

on greater significance.  CAPS is something every homeowner, no matter their current age,

should think about.  CAPS is about fitting your house now, for the future.  It is about comfort and transition as your needs change.

Think about it—higher countertops and a raised dishwasher are easier on the back.  Wider doorways, which allow for wheelchair access, are elegant.  Zero step entry from the garage is stroller ready too. As for handlebars, you may not need to put them on the wall just yet, but inside, the wall can be reinforced for the day you need them.

The purpose of CAPS is to prepare now, for your future.  Life can be tricky, but with a little forethought, your home can comfort you, and keep you safe, for as long as you want it to.

From the AARP:

The aging of 78 million boomers means that demand will grow quickly for homes that are easy to navigate, especially because some 80 percent of people age 55-plus say they want to grow old in their own homes. A significant number of those homes—some studies suggest one in four of all houses—will at some point have a resident with a long-term severe mobility impairment
